WEST SHORE JUNIOR THESPIAN TROUPE 88940

DISTRICT 7 JR. THESPIAN ASSESSMENT FESTIVAL

SATURDAY DECEMBER 3 – ONE ACT FESTIVAL

SATURDAY DECEMBER 10 – INDIVIDUAL/ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL

The Junior Thespian Festival will be held at West Shore on December 3 for One Act and December 10 for individual and ensemble performances. Junior Thespian Troupes are the middle school/junior high school version of the high school thespian troupe. West Shore has Troupe 6034 for High School and Troupe 88940 for Middle School.

Each fall individual and ensemble assessments are held to qualify for State Festival. Superior and a certain number of Excellents qualify students for the State Festival at the Orlando Convention Center on Friday and Saturday February 10 and 11. Students may perform in 3 performance and 2 tech events choosing among Monologue, Duet Acting, Ensemble Acting, Solo Musical, Duet Musical, Small Group Musical (3-7 members), Large Group Musical (8-16 members), Pantomime, Improvisation, Costume Design, Make-up Design, Scene Design, and Scene Writing. The students perform in front of 3 adjudicators. For those familiar with Odyssey of the Mind of Future Problems Solvers I am told that the event structure is similar.

We have been talking about “District” with your student and many have chosen their events. All students must pay a $32 registration fee which covers all their events including those participating in the One Act as well as their Troupe Shirt.

The fee is due by Tuesday November 22. Checks should be payable to West Shore Theatre Boosters.

The event is a very big fundraiser for the Theatre Department and takes a great deal of help on that day. Students from Brevard and Osceola Counties attend the District 7 event so we hose close to 500 Middle school students that day. Food is served all day and is a large part of our profits. We will also need help with parking, collecting admission from spectators, set-up, clean-up, and judges’ meals. Robin Kennedy, President of the Booster Club, will be getting in touch with you for volunteer sign-ups.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your continued support of the West Shore Theatre Department
